Ed Sears, MSc, BSc
Ed works across various areas of responsibility to deliver renewable energy solutions to our clients. Tasks include surveying, designing, quoting, sourcing, purchasing and installing renewable energy technologies including leading on heating installations covering solar hot water, biomass stoves and boilers, ground and air source heat pumps, underfloor heating and low-temperature radiators, controls, monitoring and metering. He is a HETAS-registered biomass engineer and a Samsung and Mitsubishi-trained heat pump service engineer. He closely follows developments in global environmental change, energy systems and clean technology.
Ed has an MSc in Climate Change from the Climatic Research Unit at University of East Anglia, a BSc in Earth System Science from the University of Derby, and qualifications in organic farming, horticulture and permaculture design. He undertook 6 years of independent study on ‘Developing a published research base for permaculture’ as part of the Earth System Science group at University of Exeter with Professor Tim Lenton as his research supervisor.
Ed is a trustee of Plants For A Future, an online database of 7000+ species of useful and edible temperate plants, and was for 5 years a trustee at the Permaculture Association, where he chaired the Research Advisory Board. He also served as a director of Earth Heart Housing Co-operative for 14 years.
