Simon Townsend
Technical Director

Simon has a degree in physics from Bristol University, has studied computing with the Open University, and also has an HNC in electronics and electrical engineering.

Simon provides technical design and installation of photovoltaic, battery, renewable heating systems, metering and controls. He led our first PV and heat pump installations over 10 years ago and now oversees the design and installation of our complex projects.

Simon designs, installs and repairs a wide variety solar thermal systems and bio-mass installations from small stoves to large batch boilers. He also specifies and installs under floor heating and controls, hot water cylinders, heat-stores and heat batteries (Simon is an approved SunAmp installer).

Simon’s experience includes designing and installing hybrid heating systems comprising multiple heat sources e.g. bio-mass, gas, heat-pumps, solar thermal. He led the award winning University of Nottingham Scenic Project which included the connection of a gas boiler, hot water cylinders, a heat-pump, a bio-mass boiler and solar thermal to a low temeprature heat main and heat-store.

Simon also designs and installs electrical control systems and PV systems both on and off-grid.
